Braces or Invisalign? Breaking down these popular orthodontic options.

Going to your local orthodontist and finding out that you might need treatment can be a big step. Once you confirm that your teeth do in fact need to be realigned, the options can be a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, that’s what your orthodontic team is there for. They can guide you in the right direction and educate you to make a choice that’s beneficial for you.

Below we will try to go through a few of the pros and cons of two of the most popular orthodontic options: braces and Invisalign.

The Pros and Cons of Braces

Over the years there have been some great advancements in orthodontic technology. Because of this, traditional braces have become more effective than ever. There is also a variety of color bands to allow patients to personalize their braces with style. Braces typically tend to be more cost-effective when compared to other orthodontic options.

One major con to this type of orthodontic treatment is that they are very noticeable. There are also food and diet restrictions that the user will have to be aware of.

The Pros and Cons of Invisalign

Invisalign treatment is different from that of traditional braces. This form of treatment relies on a customized clear plastic aligner tray that gently slips over your teeth and shifts them into their correct position. Invisalign is nearly invisible. While you have no food or diet restrictions, it is important to note that Invisalign users must be mindful to wear their aligners for at least 22 hours per day.

How to choose which is the right choice for you

Overall, the question of which is better really comes down to the treatment that your orthodontist recommends and the treatment that the patient feels most comfortable with. For some, traditional braces will be the answer and will not impact their lives. For others, Invisalign will be the treatment that they seek.
