What to Expect

What to ExpectWe welcome you to our orthodontic family practice with open arms. From your very first visit, and at each step of your treatment process, we will provide you with information on what to expect in the next appointment as well as your fee schedule and possible payment plans. We are careful to ensure that you feel comfortable with our process and invite you to connect with us to set up a complimentary consultation.

This introduction will provide you with better insight on our working environment and orthodontic evaluation. Be encouraged to know that it is not unreasonable to expect a beautiful, healthy smile upon your graduation from treatment. An important part of our Care Commitment is setting realistic expectations on the timelines, processes and other variables that are a natural part of orthodontic services.

First Appointment

When you first arrive at Smiles by Pocock, you will be greeted by our Welcoming Committee to better acquaint you with our office, team members and treatment process. Your first appointment typically takes a total of 90 minutes and includes a review of your health history, treatment concerns as well as x-ray and dental photographs. From there, Dr. Pocock will perform a thorough orthodontic evaluation of the teeth, jaws, facial balance and smile to provide you with a Smiles Report to discuss the following information in more detail with you:

  • If treatment is indicated, the best time to begin the process along with the estimated length of treatment.
  • The different treatment options available to you.
  • Financial arrangements for the treatment.
  • The Care Commitment we provide and anticipate from you to ensure a successful treatment process.

Smiles by Pocock provides the initial examination and diagnostic records as a complimentary meeting and we request that all decision makers are present in this initial consultation.

If you have dental insurance, please contact your insurance provider(s) to address the following:

  • Determine if you have PLAN C coverage included
  • If so, determine the percentage and life time maximum.

This will ensure that you have all the information you need to make an informed decision regarding your orthodontic treatment.

Regular Appointments

Once you have finalized your Orthodontic Care Plan with Smiles by Pocock, you will be given a Care Kit with information on how to take care of your teeth during treatment as well as additional resources. The first official appointment to get your appliances placed on (braces, expanders, etc.) typically takes between one and two hours. From this point forward, you will visit us at regular intervals 4 – 8 weeks apart for an adjustment appointment, which takes between 15 – 30 minutes.

Our regular office hours are Tuesdays to Fridays 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM and patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately and we ask that you only cancel in an emergency. It can be quite difficult to reschedule your appointment given that most of our appointments are made 4-10 weeks in advance.

While a growing number of our patients are adults, the majority of our clientele is still of school age. In order to be as fair as possible to everyone and to try and ensure that children miss the least amount of school, we organize our workdays accordingly. Adjustment appointments are usually short and therefore are offered before and after school where possible. In the event of longer appointment times, they are arranged mostly during school hours.

Financial Arrangements

The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient's problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before your orthodontic treatment begins. We do not accept assignment from insurance companies but we will advise you with regard to insurance matters.

In an attempt to provide the simplest financial arrangements for your needs, we have three payment options available to you:

  1. If full payment is made at the onset of treatment we will offer a 3% discount
  2. An initial 20–25% down payment followed by monthly installments is offered with no interest over 12 to 20 months.
  3. Outside financing for up to 60 months with interest.

For your convenience we accept Visa and MasterCard as well as Debit, post-dated checks and cash.

We care that you and your family receive the best possible orthodontic treatment and don’t want your finances to hinder your decision to move forward. Please connect with us to discuss our flexible financial arrangements in more detail. (Link to Contact Us)
